Rogue's Group Obedience Class Helps Family with an Energized Cattle Dog
Dog: Reggie
"My wife and I found Rogue Dog Training online and could not have been happier! Steve is a wonderful trainer. Our 7-month-old cattle dog had lots on energy and we had quite a few questions on how best to work with him going in. Steve taught us how to work with and teach our pup and Reggie responded well to everything in his Basic Obedience class. I would highly recommend Steve to anyone!" - Tim P.

Blue Heeler & Cattle Dog Training for the Milwaukee Area
Tim's experience with his energetic cattle dog, Reggie, is a perfect snapshot of life with a young Blue Heeler. These incredible dogs are brilliant, driven and bred for a purpose. Our training programs are designed to harness that intelligence and drive, turning potential challenges into strengths.
Understanding the Breed
An Australian Cattle Dog (ACD) or Blue Heeler is one of the most intelligent breeds in the world. To train one effectively, you must understand what makes them tick.
- A Brain That Needs a Job: Heelers were bred to solve problems and work all day. If you don't give them a job, they will invent their own, which often involves chewing, digging or nuisance barking.
- The Herding Instinct: The breed is famous for nipping at the heels of livestock to move them. In a home, this instinct can translate to nipping at children, guests or running vacuums. This behavior must be understood and redirected.
- Boundless Stamina: A short walk around the block is just a warm-up for a Heeler. They require consistent physical exercise combined with the mental work that truly tires them out.
- Intense Loyalty: Heelers often form an incredibly strong bond with their family. Proper socialization is crucial to ensure this loyalty doesn't become overprotectiveness or suspicion of strangers.
Our Training Program for Heelers
As Tim and Reggie discovered in our Basic Obedience class, the key to a well-behaved Heeler is channeling their natural instincts into productive skills. Instead of trying to suppress their nature, we give it a positive outlet.
Obedience Becomes Their "Job"
Our classes provide the structure and tasks that your Heeler craves. Commands like sit, stay, heel and place become jobs that satisfy their need to work and please you.
- Redirecting the Nip: We teach you how to manage and redirect the nipping instinct from day one. Through bite inhibition exercises and appropriate games, we show your Heeler what they can put their mouth on.
- Building an "Off Switch": A Heeler needs to learn how to relax. Our training focuses on impulse control and teaching your dog to settle calmly, even in exciting environments.
- Empowering the Owner: Just as we did for Tim, our primary goal is to teach you how to understand, communicate with and lead your intelligent dog. We give you the confidence to continue training long after the class ends.
Your Blue Heeler is an incredible athlete with a brilliant mind. Let us help you build a championship partnership.
